Thanks for your comment. I don’t disagree with anything you said, really. I have nothing against communism, and in fact think that if a national could achieve true communism, that’d be a good thing. At the same time, I do not believe communism ideals can ever be achieved. Regardless of American propaganda against communism, history has time and time again proven that communism cannot be executed on a national level with its ideals intact. You say that “in communism if a tyrant gains power, you will always see a revolt and the leader being removed by the people.” This is true in regards to what the communist doctrine states; this is not true in how communism has actually been implemented. In every communist state that has actually existed, they have turned into dictatorships to some degree or another.

Regardless of our views of communism, the point of the article was more my annoyance with the extremist fundamentalists of any belief. You do bring up a good point about what if the film was bashing African Americans and the good guys were the KKK, yet at the same time I think this goes on a case by case basis. The article was not intended to attack communists than to address Soviets (Russian Communists specifically) complaining about how they are depicted in the film. Soviets have been used as bad guys in countless films for fifty years, because they did, to some degree, “want to take over the world.” (I know that’s a very broad statement) The Soviet system ultimately began to fail because it was a flawed system.

Basically, I find it silly that these people get worked up so much over the mild depiction of Soviets in the film that they are calling for the movie to be banned in the country. I have the same complaint about fundamentalist Christians who try to ban movies like Dogma, etc.

If I’ve gone over your head I’ll break it down for you….

Communism is alive and well here in the USA and has been for over 75 years. It is not the big evil that folks like J Edgar Hoover, Allen Dullas and other tyrants in US power have been trying to make you think it is. the cold war is a Holy war! Just like the one we have now with christians hating Muslims.
Most Communists are Athiests. wich truth be told is the NUMBER ONE REASON the USA hates Communists. It shocks me how since the Bush administration has come to power how now we are all supposed to hate communism again and the evil commies are now terrorists.

this aside, at first I saw indy 4 after hearing Communists were upset. the first 20 minutes has a joke where indy smerks about how stupid the cia is in the fact they are destroying peoples lives just because of their communist veiws.
but then about halfway through the flick we have a sceene where the evil russian chick is holding the skull and saying things like “with this we can infect the minds of millions of americans and turn them against each other slowly, without them even realising we are doing so”

these kind of words do hit home hard to any communist for they are the type of words that the US propoganda machine has used for over 50 years to discredit the ideals of Communism. In the 50’s the cia would just march right into peoples homes and throw them in jail for voting communism, even though it used to be an option when you registered to vote and when you became draft age.

you see communist don’t beleive that people should ever starve, be homeless, be with out a higher education, be with out proper medical care because of their income. they also feel that the good for the community is their number one priority. In communism if a tyrant gains power, you will always see a revolt and the leader being removed by the people, instead of some tyrant like the Bush. whom can bomb and kill for oil in the name of God.

Back to the movie. I loved Raiders. I love Indy. I liked seeing indy again. I hate the bogus cgi and the very small plot. the aliens were just stupid, but not as stupid as the abomb sequence.

bottom line is, If some one made a movie where the plot contained a sceene where the “good guys” were bashing say African americans using the same rhetoric that the kkk spreads do you think that Black folks would have a right to be mad?

this is 2008 it is time we realise that not everybody in the world shares the same Religion,Race,political veiws,gender etc… and starts accepting folks for the person they are.

also, It sure would be nice if movie makers would stop de-faming all of our child hood hereos with trashy remakes and sequels.
