Big Casting News

July 13th, 2009

Natalie PortmanSeveral big casting announcements were made today, the most notable being that Natalie Portman will play Jane Foster in the upcoming comic book adaptation Thor. Foster will play the main love interest in the film. While I’m not excited about the project, at least it now has some female eye candy.

Denzel Washington, meanwhile, is no longer Unstoppable, as he has dropped out of the Tony Scott film due to budgetary delays. It’s reported that he refused to shave $4 million off his $20 million salary. Frankly, it’s probably a good thing that he and Scott spend some time apart.

In less interesting news, Ioan Grufford, who I have no real love for as an actor, will play Kenneth Grahame in the biography Banking on Mr. Toad. Grahame was the author of the “Wind in the Willows.” Samantha Morton will play his wife, according to Variety.

Thankfully, the cast for Robin Hood continues to get better as Danny Huston has signed on to play King Richard the Lionheart. I can already picture him as such, so great job casting there.

Lastly, Susan Sarandon and John Goodman will co-star opposite Al Pacino in the HBO biopic about Jack Kevorkian, a.k.a. Dr. Death, titled, You Don’t Know Jack. That’s a great cast in a movie that is sure to raise discussions about the morality of euthanasia.
