A thriller about a young psychologist who is assigned to deal with the survivors of a jet liner crash only to find that the survivors not only have conflicting stories about the events but that they are apparently being hunted by the government, Passengers had potential… But there’s a reason why no one has heard of this movie.

Passengers barely received a theatrical release and almost no promotion; the trailers were downright terrible. Still, the movie has a strong cast including Hathaway, Patrick Wilson and a few others, so it was worth a chance – though I only watched it because Sony sent me the DVD to review. Unfortunately, Passengers is exactly what I suspected; a forgettable, dull thriller.

Despite Raffaello Follieri being sentenced to 4 1/2 years of prison, Anne Hathaway has said that the former couple is looking to rekindle their relationship. OK, not really, but I wanted to point out that Hathaway, as she must have realized by this point, has really bad taste in men. Sure, the guy could have been a druggie or a girlfriend beater (normally called wife beater, but that doesn’t really apply in this case), but a scam artist responsible for duping investors out of millions of dollars is almost as bad, no?

“I dishonored my family name and embarrassed the church I love. I’ll never be able to wash away that stain, and I will have to live with it the rest of my life,” he said in an AP interview. Yes, way to embarrass the church. Because the church can’t do that well enough on their own.

When do you think Anne Hathaway figured it out? When he started buying her elaborate gifts without having a real job? Or when he told her that he was the Vatican’s chief financial officer? Or when he showed her a letter written personally by John Paul II?

Or when the cops showed up at his door one day?

It’s OK, Anne. I’m available and ready, and I’m not that bad. But then again, maybe that disqualifies me.

The movie trailer for the upcoming Anne Hathaway flick Passengers is now online, giving us a look at the increasingly sexy Hathaway as a federal psychologist who is assigned to work with the only ten survivors of a fiery jetliner crash. While most of the passengers show the typical signs of post traumatic stress, one passenger (Patrick Wilson) stands out as curiously different. Specifically, the guy is in a great mood, but also appears to have developed special powers since the crash (apparently, some kind of connection to the next world). This doesn’t stop Hathaway from breaking her professional ethics and sleeping with the guy, of course.

Here’s the Passengers movie trailer for your viewing pleasure:

Passengers

The movie looks OK, and certainly has an interesting premise. Unfortunately, it just looks OK, and its limited release suggests that this film isn’t good enough to play with the big boys. Still, one would think that the studio could release Passengers wide and just market it better, but the movie trailer just screams TV movie to me. With the cheesy narration and the rather boring cuts, Passengers looks like a made-for-TV Stephen King or Dean Koontz movie. In fact, I’m pretty sure at least one of these authors has done a book about something like this at some point in their career – or if they haven’t, I know I’ve seen a few TV movies over the year with similar plots.

All that being said, Hathaway looks pretty hot in the film, so that’s a plus, but not enough to fly me to theaters. As I expect pretty poor movie reviews as well, I might just pass Passengers on DVD as well.

I watched the Rachel Getting Married movie trailer the other day. Pretty good, but not great. I’m starting to believe more and more that Anne Hathaway has potential to be a pretty good actress, but I still have a bit of trouble taking her seriously (even though she has had serious roles in the past, she is best known for “fluffier” films). Perhaps this indie role will help change my viewpoint.

Nevertheless, the movie trailer for Rachel Getting Married does not have me clamboring to get to theaters in October. There are some mildly funny bits, but the offputting outcast story has been done better to funnier results. The movie looks like it’s going to be more of a drama than a comedy, which is fine, but it seems like the studio thinks that there are more laughs then there actually are. That could spell trouble.

Here’s the Rachel Getting Married movie trailer for your perusal:
