These movies are generally worthless and forgettable, hardly worth the $10 price of admission. Going into A Perfect Getaway, a largely un-marketed thriller from Universal Pictures, this is exactly what I expected. Thankfully, the movie is surprisingly entertaining and well done, despite a rather disastrous third act.

In Nobel Son, Rickman plays an obnoxiously cocky professor who has just been selected to receive the Nobel Prize. On the eve of the award ceremony, however, his son (Greenberg) is kidnapped and held for ransom by a young man with a grudge (Hatosy). But even after the ransom is paid and the son released, the con continues to play out.

Told to stay put, he instead sets out to ensure that the events he went through before happened again, so he doesn’t mess up time. But, as one might imagine, he doesn’t do a very good job of that.

Timecrimes (also known as Los Cronocrímenes to those who speak español) comes to limited theaters this Friday.
