The Sci-Fi Channel, soon to be called SyFy (who the hell thought of that stupid idea?), is releasing the pilot on April 21, 2009 – the show will officially premiere in 2010.

First off, I thought the series finale of Battlestar Galactica was pretty good, but not amazing. I loved the battle. I loved Tyrol killing Tory, leading to a bloody gunfight. I even liked a lot of the second half, as they wrapped up the characters. I didn’t understand humanity’s will to rid itself of technology – that’s not plausible. And after all the years of sticking together to survive, the thought of scattering around the planet didn’t make much sense. And why would Adama wish to live out the rest of his days alone, away from his son? And for a show rooted into believability, did it really make sense for Starbuck to just disappear? This seemed like a bit of a cop out, even mor so than never explaining what she is or why she returned. Read this article from Entertainment Weekly – it sums up my opinion perfectly.

Now, you might have caught the extended preview of the prequel Caprica while watching the series finale. I keep going back and forth, and this preview swung me back to the “I don’t know” category. The show looks like it could be good, but the preview was poorly manufactured and failed to create much excitement. We’ll just have to wait and see.
